What is BJJ?
Human chess, with a workout built in
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the art of controlling another person's body using leverage and mechanics. It lets a smaller person hold a larger attacker in a position they choose, or end a fight with a submission — which is why it's the most popular modern martial art taught today, and why it's often called "human chess."
It's also a ridiculously fun game that works out your body and your mind at the same time. You don't need to be fit, flexible, or experienced to start — you'll build all of that on the mats.
How we teach
A syllabus, not a grab bag of moves
Unlike most teams, our BJJ classes follow a year-long syllabus with a different subject each month and a new focus each week. You get time to see a technique, drill it on different body types and skill levels, and actually level up your mastery — instead of collecting disconnected moves. Ask as many questions as you like; class here feels more like a conversation than a lecture.
That teaching method is why Aces is the #1 winningest BJJ competition team in Central Texas (NAGA, IBJJF, AGF) — and it's the same system that gets a first-day beginner good, fast. All levels train together in this class: newcomers learn the fundamentals, and veterans tighten theirs up against fresh looks.
