The Aces story

After the military, Jiu-Jitsu was a lifeline for Professor Mikal Abdullah — a way to rebuild health, find brotherhood, and keep growing into the best version of himself. Sharing that same experience with new friends has been the guiding light of Aces since he opened the first location in 2013.

Professor Abdullah is a 3rd Degree BJJ Black Belt, US Army veteran, competitor, professional fighter, father, and teacher. He received his black belt and all of his degrees under Professor Allen Mohler — the first American awarded a black belt under Team Alliance and the first person to teach Jiu-Jitsu in Texas.

Aces is the #1 winningest BJJ competition team in Central Texas, ranked #1 year after year across NAGA, IBJJF, and AGF. We're proud of that — but the wins are evidence, not the point. We teach the why and how BJJ fundamentals work, on a structured year-long syllabus, instead of handing out disconnected "moves." Competition results are simply what that method produces.

Just as important: our champions were developed here, from white belt — not recruited ready-made. The same system that builds them is what gets a beginner, a parent, or someone chasing a fitness goal good, fast. Today that system covers BJJ Core / Fundamentals, Advanced BJJ, Kids & Family BJJ, Muay Thai, Fitness Kickboxing, Women's Self Defense, and MMA, at both of our locations.

And we're deliberately the opposite of the bad BJJ stereotypes: no ego room, no smash-the-newbie culture, no belts for show. Controlled, technical, beginner-safe — and provably effective.
