Jiu Jitsu Ace Garry Tonnon Moves to 5-0 in MMA with Victory

Garry Tonon’s transition from Jiu Jitsu to mixed martial arts has continued to be a joy to behold, this time as he scored a slick first-round heel-hook victory at ONE Championship. For those in the know, the athletic capabilities of this 27-year-old Danaher Death Squad stand-out have been beyond any doubt for some time. With that being said, the ease at which he has been able to take to the more multi-faceted sport of MMA has been nothing short of stunning to see in motion. Coming into today’s event in Singapore, Tonon had scored a perfect four wins by way of stoppage – two by submission and two from strikes. Facing Yoshiki Nakahara, he did not long to get comfortable, trading briefly with his opponent on the feet before latching onto a leg beautifully, catching a picture-perfect leg-lock for a quick tap.

Tonon, who is a multiple time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, holds a win on the grappling circuit over his fellow MMA newbie Dillon Danis – who up until this point – has been able to post a 1-0 record in the sport. Make no mistake, the level of competition Tonon has been facing in MMA has been no joke – especially this early into his career and even now, there really is the sense that he has all the makings of an elite-tier fighter.
