Ask A BJJ Black Belt | Are You For or Against Open Mat Sessions?

Welcome to another week’s episode of “Ask A BJJ Black Belt”

In this episode of “Ask a Black Belt” Professor Mikal tackles the question…

“Are you for or against Open Mat sessions?”

For anyone who might not know, an open mat in the world of BJJ is an open training session at which there is no organized instruction. Instead participants can just “roll”. Rolling is just a fancy way to say spar. And while “rolling” is super fun and a great tool to help you learn BJJ, when used incorrectly it can actually hinder growth.

This subject has the BJJ community divided a bit. Watch the video below to see which side of the conversation you are on.

Watch the video to find out:

  • What to avoid when attending open mat
  • The most important question to ask your BJJ instructor
  • How to really raise your game with open mat sessions

Reading about it is fun. Training is better.
